This arresting and whimsical gogotte was finely modelled by the movement of silica-rich water through loose sand near Fontainebleau, France. It derives its nickname “Guetteur” (“Lookout”) from its rounded forms and thick stone folds, which evoke an abstract figure surmounted by a large eye, seemingly peering out of the composition.
The striking forms of gogottes have fascinated their beholders for centuries and inspired many artists, making them highly coveted works of nature. Each of these sandstone concretions is entirely unique – a masterpiece slowly fashioned by the hands of Nature over time.
